I had an 18-year-old friend who was vehemently against voting-- didn't want anything to do with a system she thought would do no good and affected nothing she cared about.
Then people started passing laws about marriage being an exclusive right of straight people.
She could not have gone faster to the DMV to register than if Scotty had teleported her there.
I got Trish registered to vote a few months ago...now if I can just get her permanent absentee she might just vote..or at least throw it at me and let me fill it out for her :)
I know that sounds like I'd be voting twice, but trust me, it would be me sitting there asking her how she wants to vote and forcing her to think about it... She feels like it doesn't matter who gets elected up top..and I can't help but agree on some levels..but there are so many local issues that do effect us directly and quickly, people are idiots if they don't let themselves be heard.
If the only ones who vote are in minority, then it is rule by a few over the many.
Though as you said, why am I telling you something you already know?
